Cannot download Office Genuine Notifications using Internet explorer 8
Hello people, I am facing an unusual problem while downloading Office Genuine Notifications update using Internet explorer. The computer on which I am trying to download the update is installed with Windows XP operating system and is connected to the broadband connection. The default browser on the system is Internet explorer 8. The problem is everytime I try to download the update, the browser gives error 0x8007643 and says the file cannot be downloaded. Therefore if anybody knows why I Cannot download Office Genuine Notifications using Internet explorer 8 then please share some solutions. Any suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

It is possible that the version of the Internet explorer which is installed on your computer is corrupt and hence you are facing the such problems while downloading. Every application has lot of files which are associated to it. If any of the files which are associated to the application gets corrupt then the application does not work properly. The only solution to solve such problem is to either replace all the files which have got corrupt or to reinstall the whole application again. Reinstalling the whole application will ensure that all the files which are corrupt are replaced and hence will solve the problem.

Are there any security software's installed on the computer? Security software's such as firewall and antivirus tend to create problems while downloading certain data from the internet. The basic tendency of such software is to block any unknown traffic which is coming or going from the computer. Due to this tendency sometimes the software's block the user desired traffic giving rise to the problem like you are facing. Try moving the process of the browser to the trusted applications list of the security software's or try and disable the software while downloading the updates.

There is high possibility that the computer which you are using is infected with some kind of virus which is not allowing the computer to download the software update using the browser. Some virus's get linked with the files associated to the applications which are frequently used by the user. If such situation arises then application whose file is infected with the virus will not work properly. Hence scan the entire system with an updated antivirus and then check for any infected files. If there are any infected files, then repair or quarantine them and then check if the browser is working properly or not.

Sometimes the add-on or the application which is installed on the browser creates problems with normal working of the browser. If the files of the add-on or the application itself is corrupt, then it will corrupt the files of the browser when it is installed. To be sure if the browser is facing the problems due to the installed add-on or application then disable all the installed add-on or application and see if the browser works properly or not. If on disabling all the add-ons and the applications then find and remove the application which is creating problem.

You have mentioned that you are getting the error 0x8007643 while downloading the update using the Internet Explorer browser. Error 0x8007643 indicates that the Office source engine service is not started. Start the office source engine service and then see if the browser is able to download the file or not. To start the Office source engine service,
Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
In the list of services, double-click Office Source Engine.
View the option that appears in the Startup type list.
If the startup type is set to Disabled, change the startup type to Manual.
To do this, click Manual in the Startup type list, and then click OK.
Try to install the Office Update packages again.
