Can't download programmes or updates
Hello Everyone,

I have installed Windows Xp and using Internet Explorer 7 as my web browser. I'm unable to download any programs as well as can't do any updates on my system. I tried to run Adaware and Spyware on my system but unable to resolve this issue. I don't know whether my system is been affected with viruses or having some malware problem. Can any one help me out to resolve this issue? Any help on it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Can't download programmes or updates
This issue should be related to the service setting. I suggest check the services and then restart to see if it works.

1. Click Start --> select Run. In the Run box, type services.msc Click OK

2. Find the Background Intelligent Transfer Service. Right-click on it and select Properties

3. Click on Stop and then again click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected. Click OK

4. Similarly find Automatic Updates service. Right-click on it and select Properties

5. Click on Stop and then again click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected. Click OK

6. Close the Services window.

If you are currently unable to download and updates as you are behind a proxy server, you can add your proxy server information to Spybot to help solve this problem. Note that before starting this change you should get your proxy server information from your system administrator.

1. Click "Mode", selecting "Advanced Mode".

2. Click "Settings" in the left pane.

3. Click "Settings" in the right pane.

4. Under "Automation" - "Web Update", check "Use proxy to connect to update server".

5. A "Proxy settings" dialog will appear, prompting you for the proxy server host and port. If the proxy server needs authentication, you can enter the proxy server user name and password.

6. Click "Ok" to close the dialog box.

It looks to me that you have got a firewall which might be blocking your outgoing access. There might be possibility that it may be blocking all outgoing connections.
